Surrounded by forest, open fields, and streams, Dinesen Country Home is a traditional South Jutland longhouse built in 1885 with a thatched roof and divided windows. The house is deeply rooted in the history of the Dinesen family and embodies the values and craftsmanship that are central to the Dinesen heritage.
Dinesen Country Home is located near Dinesen's headquarters and production facility in Jels, and within walking distance of the creative center Orbi, which offers guest stays for architects in collaboration with Dinesen and the Royal Academy. The location reflects the house’s central role in Dinesen's history and its core values such as tradition, collaboration, and curiosity.
Inside, the home has been gently renovated by the design duo Mentze Ottenstein, with an interior that blends the house’s historical character with a vibrant and contemporary aesthetic. In its new role as a guesthouse, the house has retained its warm and homely atmosphere.
The design celebrates colors and textures with seamless transitions from room to room.
“We have maintained a consistent color scheme for door frames and ceiling beams, while gradually shifting the color palette from lighter tones to darker, cozier shades,” explain Mentze and Ottenstein.
This harmonious gradation culminates in a library with dark walls, creating a warm and intimate living space.
The interior is painted with linseed oil paint and Aqualinum. Aqualinum is a wall and ceiling paint for indoor use on plaster, filler, fabric, or wallpaper. The paint adheres well to both untreated surfaces as well as those previously treated with Aqualinum or other types of paint.
Aqualinum bridges the gap between old knowledge and the modern user, offering a healthy and sensible paint that is easy to apply with a roller or sprayer.
Aqualinum is available in many colors, but if you can’t find exactly what you're looking for, feel free to contact us, as we can also create custom blends tailored to your preferences!
Aqualinum covers 10 m² per liter on a non-absorbent surface and 5 m² per liter on an absorbent surface. Click here to explore our colors or call to order a color sample.
The house was restored by architect Jørgen Overby in 2004, while Mentze Ottenstein added more textured and decorative aspects to the interior in 2024.
