MUSEUM OVARTACI

During the first years of running the company, I, Thor Grabow, have been making linseed paint for the windows of the former psychiatric hospital near Aarhus as the colour very well describes 'Hospital Green'.

The beautiful building always brought my thoughts back to a bygone era when the architecture was beautiful, the materials were few, and the details were executed in abundance.

"I didn't take the time to
understand what was actually
happening behind those thick walls."

As a young entrepreneur, I was always in a hurry – a paint company with its own production doesn’t run itself by daydreaming, which is why I never gave much thought to what had taken place behind the thick walls of this fascinating place.

In 2022, I was contacted by Moesgaard Museum in Aarhus. They made a request if we could deliver the colours for a new museum they were preparing – namely Museum Ovartaci. Even though I had heard of the artist, I didn’t know much about the person behind it – other than he considered himself crazy and therefore his name became ‘Ovartaci’.

I immediately went to the museum's website to read more about him. Reading about another person's life journey is always something I find very interesting, but this story went straight to the heart.

We would, of course, like to supply the colours for the project. With such a life story, it is a matter of honor. The museum started the process of colourizing and showed us some visualizations, and then the project was set in motion.

The paint used is our wall paint Aqualinum®, and the colours, with the exception of one, were chosen from our colour chart. Aqualinum® is a traditional type of paint, known since the 16th century, and is still found in the innermost paint layers on altarpieces in churches. As is evident from the name, Aqualinum® is a combination of the Latin words for water and linseed oil, which are the components of the product.

"The choice fell on Aqualinum®
because it leaves the surface
so beautiful and soulful"

The museum chose this paint because it leaves the surface matte and soulful – something that was commented on several times when the museum staff walked past the initial strokes of colour.

In addition to being free of the preservative MI, Aqualinum® is also free of solvents and most importantly, microplastics.

"Aqualinum® is a wall paint
completely free of microplastics"

The product can be rolled or sprayed on and provides surfaces that can withstand light cleaning, such as spot removal with Ajax, water, sponge, and cloth. As it is a natural paint, drying times may vary for different colours.

Aqualinum® brings soul and life into your home! This means that one should be prepared for the fact that not all surfaces will always look exactly the same. I find it beautiful and a delightful departure from the tyranny of perfection of our time.

Visit Museum Ovartaci and experience what you think of the colours, see Ovartaci's fantastic works, and immerse yourself in the fascinating and harsh portrayal of a life.
