Aqualinum® is an interior paint for walls and ceilings that can be used on top of plaster, filler, fabric, or wallpaper. Aqualinum® comes in 99 colours, which all of them can be rolled or sprayed directly onto the wall. The colours appear with a completely matte expression and a velvety texture, which gives a very special room experience. Aqualinum® builds a bridge between ancient knowledge and the modern user who wants a healthy and sensible paint that contributes to a good indoor climate in your home. The name Aqualinum® is a combination of the Latin words “aqua” and “linum” since the paint is based on an emulsion of water and linseed oil. The selected ingredients, water, linseed oil, cellulose gum and pigment are combined by good workmanship that turns the mixture into the finest and purest paint. The paint binds well on both untreated surfaces as well as on surfaces already treated with Aqualinum® or other kinds of paint. Always use a microfiber roller with a large pile (17 mm) and only use a brush for cutting-in edges of the wall. Follow our instructions and watch our instruction video – and you will achieve a great result.

Aqualinum® reaches 10 m² per liter on a non-absorbent surface and 5 m² per liters on an absorbent surface. The way you should proceed will depend on the type of surface you are going to paint on, as priming may be necessary. Making a primer for Aqualinum® is very simple and aims to saturate an absorbent surface before painting. Aqualinum® Primer is mixed by Aqualinum® and Krystalfernis in a 1:1 ratio, i.e. 1 liter of Aqualinum with 1 liter of Krystalfernis. Aqualinum® Primer is used once on a lightly absorbent base and twice on a highly absorbent base before painting with Aqualinum®.

Instructions

It is important to structure your work before you begin to start painting with Aqualinum®. Make sure you always do one wall in a go – and never stop in the middle of a wall. Start in one corner and gradually working your way to the other corner, tackling one small area at a time while you likewise do the cutting-in in small areas at a time. You must work quick and pay attention to always working wet-in-wet. Start close to the window and work away from the light source (i.e. doors and windows). To achieve a uniform surface of the coating it is important to distribute the Aqualinum® into the same thickness all over the wall. Don’t go back on the already painted areas, this will leave prints in the surface of the coat, when it dries. Finish off with a roll from the ceiling to the floor one meter at a time while you let go of most of the pressure. Always use a microfiber roller with a large pile (17 mm) or a paint sprayer. Only use a brush for cutting in the edges of the wall. If possible, avoid using a brush and use an edge-roller instead. You have to be aware of linseed oil emits a natural and harmless smell during the curing time. It is the linseed oil that is converted to linoxyn (the solid form of linseed oil). We like to say that the paint is being “honest”. By an “honest” paint is meant that it will always tell you when to move into a room, because you must wait until the smell has disappeared. Turn on the heat and ventilate regularly while you are painting, but also up to a week after you have finished the work. Clean your brushes and paint roller with water and linseed soap. If the tools only need to be stored for a few days, you can keep them in an airtight bag or place them in the freezer. It is also possible to store the rest of the paint in your freezer. Aqualinum® is free from heavy preservatives, therefore storing it in the freezer will extend the lifetime of the paint.

Care & maintenance

A surface painted with Aqualinum® must be handled a little differently in everyday life compared to conventional plastic painted surfaces. If stains appear on the wall they are removed with a relatively strong Ajax-solution or a similar cleaning agent with a soft sponge or cloth. Leave it on for 30 seconds and gently wipe it off with a cloth wrung out in water. Never scrub or scrub with a sponge or brush but let the chemistry in the cleaning agent do the job. The painted surfaces must be cleaned after four weeks after the earliest.

You may find that after several years a yellow stain can appear behind a wall hung painting, when it is moved or removed from its usual location. This is because the linseed oil yellows in the dark - but as soon as you let the area on the wall get daylight and oxygen, the yellowing will disappear after a few weeks. If you need to repair an area of the wall, the entire wall must be repainted. You can't just paint the area as Aqualinum® must always be applied wet on wet over the entire wall – otherwise the result will be changing.
