Siccative
Siccative is an extremely important additive when you work with Linseed Paint and especially if you want to mix your paint yourself. Siccative promotes the hardening of the oil, and it is added in the mixing process. The Linseed Oil used in Linseed Paint is pressed out of flaxseed and afterwards refined. In order to use the oil for painting, it must be boiled to a varnish. Once the oil is boiled, Pigments are added to give the mixture colour. The Boiled Linseed Oil hardens very slowly, and although it can be used as a paint, it can drag out the process very far because the paint takes too long to dry. Therefore, Siccative is used as an additive. The additive helps to promote the uptake of oxygen in the curing process, which makes it go a lot faster. If Siccative is not added to the mixture, the paint may seem sticky for many years. Siccative is therefore a clear necessity to get the Linseed Paint to dry.
